Description My daughter bought me this purple columbine plant a couple years ago. It grows bigger and brighter every year. The columbine plant (Aquilegia) is toxic but oh so pretty! The genus name Aquilegia is derived from the Latin word for eagle (aquila), because the shape of the flower petals are said to resemble an eagle's claw.
