Description Black Gum's Ruthie Despirit aka Night, Night! 'Sorry, Marty, this isn't to scale.' Background is referenced from Warnor's Theater via Google Maps, but it's not to scale, otherwise, Night, Night is about twelve feet tall. She's not. She's more like four and a half feet tall, but I wanted to set her among some interesting architecture.
Rob Lopez, Orange Cove, CA Member Since September 2017 Artist Statement While most of my art has been conceptual, in service to my writing, I have always enjoyed putting down on paper the characters and images that are in my head. They help me define and get a foothold on the story. As I get older, and I put more work into a given image, I realize many of them can stand alone and take on a life of their own. When I was in my teens I developed a series of comic book ideas, heroes and villains, and in my twenties I tossed around a few novel ideas and played a lot of roleplaying games and created my own. In my thirties I finally started to follow through on a few of these ideas and now in my forties, I have a handful of self-published stories under the Spiral Legion (scifi horror) and Forsaken Stars (scifi horror fantasy) banners. I'm setting the ground work on a new comic book called Black Gum, and fiddling with a few stories that don't fall in any one category, with sketches and concept art always on the horizon. Enjoy.
