Esther J. Williams, Laguna Niguel, CA
Member Since June 2011
Artist Statement Esther came from Binghamton, NY where she lived until she was six years old. Her family moved to Napa, CA in 1961, living there ten years until she moved back to her birth town in NY in 1971. Esther focused on art as her major throughout her early educational years and won awards. In 1980 she entered formal studies in fine art and architectural design at Tompkins-Cortland-Community-College (TC-3) in Dryden, NY. She received an associates degree in Arts & Sciences. Esther entered into a year at Hood College in Frederick, MD. while studying art and art history. She then attended the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, CA. Esther was trying to establish a paying creative career in fashion design. When that fell out, she moved to the Washington D.C., spending four years working at the Marriott Hotel next to the Whitehouse. In her spare time she studied the master artists at the museums. In 1987 she moved back to northern, CA in the San Francisco Bay area, then to southern CA where she married and had children. California is where she calls home now. In the year 2000 Esther joined several art associations. Southern CA was plein air country so she began to paint en plein air with groups like the Laguna Plein Air Painters, Southern California Plein Air Painters and the San Clemente Art Association. She studies both the French and early California Impressionists intensely. Being influenced by the Renaissance masters in addition, Esther creates some studio works of art using the figure, architecture, animals and still lifes. She has been in many juried art exhibitions and has numerous awards, see that list separately on her website.
