Artist Statement I became an artist as a victim of circumstance. Having attended college later in life, on a tight schedule, I found myself nearing graduation in need of one more elective class. The Acting class I had hoped to take did not fit into my schedule, but as it turned out there was an oil painting class that was a perfect fit. Having never before shown any inclination towards art (besides constant doodling of cars, tucks, boats and airplanes) I thought it would, at the very least, be interesting to learn how an oil painting was made. And as college classes go it would have to be fun, wouldn’t it? My dreams of fun quickly turned into “what am I doing here” and “who am I kidding, I am no artist”. Thankfully those thoughts were short lived and by the end of the class turned into “WOW, I can actually do this. And the rest as they say is history, I have been painting ever since. Since that first class my instruction has been self directed through constant reading, watching art videos, attending art shows, visiting galleries and practice.
