Description This is a very early drawing of the actress Ossi Oswalda, an actress featured in Ernst Lubitsch's 1919 film 'The Doll'. The lighting for that film is what appealed to me initially, and this drawing was a practice in different types of shading. This was intended for a larger, oil pastel drawing, but after the process was over I found I preferred the sketch.
Anya Ciccone, Chicago Member Since May 2011 Artist Statement I am a self-taught artist who specializes in portraits. I can spend hours on one face alone! People and their expressions are an endless source of inspiration for me.
I look at art as a process and a concentration exercise, and I hope to convey this in my work. I hope you like interacting with the work as much as I love interacting with it myself.
