Artist Statement I graduated from the the Fashion Institute of Technology and worked in the fashion business in New York City for twenty-five years. I worked as a copywriter, photo stylist, and editor-in-chief of Simplicity Patterns.I moved around like a gypsy, soaking up the color many neighborhoods. In the late 70's I found my dream on 72nd St and West End, A rent controlled one bedroom with a 23' terrace. That was home until I left New York City for CT, returning to the shoreline, where I spent summers as a child. The circle is completed.
Our first house was in Lyme.I had four flower gardens for the first time ever, Unwilling to see my precious blossoms die, I learned to press. I use many ways, whatever works best for each type of flower..
When I felt the need for a new medium, I remembered making seaweed hats and capes as a child, and decided to experiment with methods to press it..Success came after several tries, and I began to create seaweed art.
Except for my own, I have never seen a piece of seaweed art. It is a very strong mediium. After drying, I surround myself with pieces, and the seaweed tells me what to create and what to name the picture.
Working with flowers constantly changes. I recently started doing portraits of people I have never seen. My neighbor commissioned me to create a portrait of her husband for his birthday. She loved it. Me too.
