Artist Statement I am exploring my life in the form of abstract art. I remember as a child to keep me out of trouble my mother and grandmother (both rest in peace) would get me painting supplies and lots of thread.. the main things I would do the most in the summer would be either draw, paint or embroider. All of which kept me home during turbulent times in the early 70's.
Years have gone by and I fell out of the habit of both, shame to say that I really wish I had kept alot of the things I had made, however, with moves from here and there.. I lost track of alot of my creations.
I have always continued to "doodle" and play around with writing poetry and drawing.. mainly plants and flowers.
About 6 years ago I found myself home alot with nothing but time on my hands while recuperating from a number of injuries and subsequant surgeries and so to fill the time, I started drawing again, that led to pastels, chalks, oils pencil, charcoals.. alot of experimentation and since I wasn't able to work in my gardens, I drew them out.. the happy flowers that I wanted to grow, the bright sunny laughter and sense of contentment AND energy that you receive from doing something you truly love to do. These are some of the results of my artistic gardens on canvas and paper.
Some are of winter scenes I would imagine I would be in.. places I wanted to go to and some are of the pain that I was going through.. both physically and emotionally. Being able to express all of this with colors and angles lines and curves .. it has helped me be the better person that I think I am today.
