Artist Statement Since childhood, I’ve been fortunate to have many creative outlets, along with the tools I have sometimes needed to fully take advantage of them. As an adult who has rediscovered art, I find beauty in the most commonplace items, and I delight in the natural world around me. I enjoy investigating different media, and whether using photography, textiles, or paint, I seek to retain simplicity, while working to achieve a deeply layered, emotional composition. Imagination is what I’m all about, and I celebrate it!
A native of the Alabama Gulf Coast, I have enjoyed living in a variety of locations both east and west of the Mississippi, and both north and south. Back home in Alabama, I now have the luxury of reasonably warm weather most of the year, which gives me the opportunity to spend time outdoors dyeing, painting, photographing, and gardening.
I have been a textile artist and photographer for many years, and while returning to school several years ago I discovered digital art, which has offered up an abundance of new creative possibilities. Although I spend much of my time in front of a sewing machine, behind a camera, or at the computer, there's still nothing quite like the smell of oil paint and freshly cleaned brushes!
