Artist Statement I come from a white collar upbringing, four years of US Army Counter Intelligence, and twenty years residing in the Rocky Mountains. The combination has instilled an open awareness that enables me to capture strong composition while I also recognize—and am drawn to—the beauty of a close-up of the petals of an Iris.
I paint what strikes me as worthy of my time and energy: landscapes, street scenes, architectural features, nudes, geological abstractions, and creations of pure fantasy—whimsical images I refer to as “Inner Child Squiggle Characters.” Beyond composition, I am drawn to contrast, shape, color, balance, and setting.
Because of my background in creative writing, photography, and painting, and a disposition to remain flexible and curious, I devote time to artistic challenges rather than. (I’m not a niche artist.)
These elements form a mantra and synergy which enable me to play with technique and style, and to strengthen my artistic skills.
