Artist Statement Born in Canada, I picked up my first camera at age 13. Like my closest friends, I started by shooting endless roles of black and white film, then spent hours perfecting the final prints in a darkroom.

But, as with most creative endeavors, photography would have to take a back seat to career and family. I've since moved to the US, settling in Palo Alto, California.

An avid traveler, a lot of what I capture is away from home. And for some reason I'll let the psychiatric folks figure out, I have an interest in what I think is an artistic attraction in structural rot and decay.

So, for example, I did a project a couple of years ago when I notice that I had developed enduring intrigue of Route 66. I wanted to capture the truth about Route 66, a truth… the evidence of abandonment of so many structures once filled with the lives of their occupants.

But I wanted to add a human element to my photo shoot as well. The light came for me when I met and conspired with Melissa Shaker. She had lived at the tail end of the route for many years, and was very familiar with its glory and its devastation.

So I brought Mel into the picture to help tell the story of this once thriving national artery.

Inside my portfolio, is a small gallery of photographs taken during our journey from Chicago to Los Angeles. You can see a video clip of a larger collection of the trip at YouTube at: http://bit.ly/dl9V1p That's Mel who wrote, played and sang the song... same one that appeared in the photos!

So, come back again and I will tell you about the Faroe Islands, and my perspective of Venice -- in words, and of course, in images.

Thank you for taking a look. And perhaps, for sharing one of these image or two in your household.
