Description Rubik's Cube is a Mechanical puzzle with the group operation known as G being the the action of linking things together in a series or concatenation of cube moves. With the solved position as a starting point, there is a one-to-one correspondence between each of the positions of the Rubik's Cube and the elements of G. Most everyone above the age of 9 can learn to solve a Rubik's Cube. There are ways to approach the Rubik's Cube at least partially mathematically, but most speed-cubing methods involve no math. Some steps are more or less intuitive or abstract, but there is very little that speed-cubers invent on the spot. Other steps are straight pattern recognition: this pattern means sequence of moves. Although many cubers have interests in math/science, neither helps much in cubing. It's interesting to note that many world-class speed-cubers are not good at math. I guess it must be a form of art to solve.
Emily Colosimo, Toronto Member Since July 2012 Artist Statement Emily grew up in a Canadian Italian Family where her mother was a talented seamstress/pattern designer and her father's hobby was redesigning cars. Her dad once envisioned an alternative fuel vehicle over 40 years ago. All of her siblings inherited much of their talents. Her first artwork was a lighthouse drawn when she was 4 years old. From that point on she was destined to become an architect. Sketching, painting and currently digital artwork has become her passive leisure. From Landscape Architect to Advertising Art Director Emily uses her artistic tools to envision her ideas.
