Description 'SANDS OF TIME ... MEMENTO MORI' by Marian Voicu A surrealistic digital collage that captures the essence of the first verses of the Ecclesiastes: 'Meaningless! Meaningless!' says the Teacher. 'Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.' 'What do people gain from all their labors at which they toil under the sun?' I started this digital art collage with the image of an hourglass in which time, like quicksands sucks the life of the sinking man, while on the other side, like a production line, 'the finished product' is delivered as a skeleton. This artwork may also serve as an irony to the so-called 'modern world' consumerism. The dark mood is also reinforced both by the scorched land and the grunge texture. 'Memento Mori' is a Latin phrase meaning 'Be mindful of death' and may be translated as 'Remember that you are mortal,' 'Remember you will die,' 'Remember that you must die,' or 'Remember your death'. It names a genre of artistic creations that vary widely from one another, but which all share the same purpose, which is to remind people of their own mortality.
Marian Voicu, Bucharest Member Since January 2017 Artist Statement Hello and welcome to my shop! My name is Marian and I'm a visual artist. My works don’t have a particular theme or style. Depending on the inspiration of the moment, I like to create watercolor illustrations, digital surreal collages or other type of collages (I very much like the idea of absurd, impossible or funny situations), digital portraits or playing with texture layers creating interesting effects similar to real paintings. If you like my artworks, I'll be more than honored to help you decorate your house walls. Thank you for visiting my shop !
