Artist Statement James Post grew up in New Jersey. He received his BFA (painting, drawing, sculpture) from Mason Gross School of the Arts and his MFA (visual art) from Brooklyn College, CUNY. He continues to study Shaolin Kung Fu under Sifu Lawrence Hill, comprising northern and southern styles of Shaolin, Yang Tai Chi Chuan, qi gong and other forms of internal martial arts. His philosophy towards the martial arts is this: we are on a journey of connectivity and transformation, all around us and within ourselves. The model of the martial arts can help us gain a greater awareness of who and what we are, what our potential is, and how we can grow.

"My work is informed by the martial arts, psychedelics, integral philosophy and consciousness research. I am currently making a series of b&w ink blots and drawings from blots, using random form elements as a basis, then adding aggressive line detail and airbrush (mechanical breathing). I use this process as a meditation. The prospective technological singularity creates, in my view, a myth for our rational 21st century society. The power of the myth I see in my generation is the prime motivator for personal transformation and emotional alchemy to overcome a greater psychological alienation. My drawings are residual to the process of my current research and practice of the martial arts and research, seeking a spiritual directive."
