Artist Statement Hello there, everybody! Welcome to my galleries on Imagekind.
I was born in 1971, and attended the School of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University, graduating with dual BFAs. Photography is a relatively recent medium for me; I got my start years after leaving school, in the age of digital imaging. Truth be told, I've never even owned a film camera!
I'm an avid photographer, with an passion for simple, striking, and abstract compositions plucked from the everyday. I like the immediacy of objects, and pare away anything that would get in the way of experiencing them for what they simply
are. Beauty for it's own sake is fine by me! I also look for the quirky and humorous in things, and try to bring a sense of play to my photos.
I put a lot of effort into my photgraphy, trying to get the most from my camera, and constantly pushing myself to learn new and improved techniques. From that starting point I carefully post-process my images to bring out the best color and detail possible. You'll find no blurry, washed out pictures here!
I adore hyperrealism, and try to boost my subjects up to a higher level by creating idealized versions of them in the all-powerful Photoshop, but don't call my pictures Digital Art. I always strive to maintain the basic truth of my work, even as I edit my photos to remove distractions. While you may never see my subjects so perfected in the real world, they still retain the sense that they might be found just around the corner, if you only look.
