Artist Statement Roger Alden Anderson (BIO)
Art and music have been essential in Roger Alden Anderson’s life since childhood. Recently retired from teaching band and chorus at Rincon Middle School, he is also an accomplished orchestral and choral conductor and composer, conducting at Carnegie Hall, and directing concerts in Europe and San Diego. For the past four years, Roger has been the director of the Roger Anderson Chorale and Arts Consort in Encinitas, producing innovative choral music performances and collaborations with local dance companies, at the Encinitas Library, the White Box Theater in San Diego, and local churches.

As a visual artist, he has displayed his artwork multiple times at juried shows in the Escondido Municipal Art Gallery, the Fine Art Exhibit at the California State Fair in Del Mar, and in local banks and offices.

Using his skills as a pianist, flautist, musical composer and visual artist, Roger collaborated with dance faculty at the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, where his original music and six original art pieces were used for a 20-minute dance and video work performed at the Lyceum Theater in the Spring of 2014.

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, the Chorale has to be on hiatus. However, Roger is embracing the challenge and opportunity created by the pandemic to make his voice heard, not through music, but through art.
