Artist Statement I love being surrounded in nature’s wonder; it generates peace and resolve for me in a time when life is rushing me around in this fast paced world of technology.
I’ve developed a way to preserve some of my summer gardens in my handmade ice luminaries. I then make images of the details I see in Mother Nature’s frozen artistry. Since it is ice that I photograph I use a horse trailer as my studio so I am out of the arctic wind and can play light of which I use candlelight a flashlight and natural light.
I love to capture the essence of the details in each luminary in what is reminiscent of a miniature painting. The light reflects through the textures of frozen bubbles and fractures in the ice against the contrast of the delicate preservation of summer. Thus my garden gems are honored and their beauty extended before they return to the earth to begin again in the spring.
This journey of playing with ice in the dead of a Minnesota winter is fascinating, magical, captivating and always inspires me to try new things each year.

My ice luminary photography has been shown in several galleries in the Minneapolis area. Most recently; Minneapolis Institute of Art, SpotArt Gallery, Ice Box Gallery, and Gallery 332.
