Artist Statement

CARL JACOBSON has had a long career in the music industry focused on the empowerment of musicians. This gallery, launched simultaneously with his feature on IntegralNaked in 2007 was his first public showing as a visual artist.

Carl is currently the Vice President of Marketing for Cakewalk, responsible for messaging, branding, and creative vision for their technology-leading music production applications worldwide. In Carl's role at Cakewalk, he has been blessed to work with true icons of popular music including many of his idols and some of the world's leading technology companies in bringing solutions to the music industry.

Carl is regularly asked to speak on creativity, music, technology, and marketing. To that effect, he was recently spotlighted in Kevin Roberts, CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi’s book "The Lovemarks Effect: Winning in the Consumer Revolution" (2006). This past April, he moderated a panel of some of the music industry’s most successful producers and engineers at the ASCAP I Create Music Expo. He has also written for or been interviewed by Computer Music, Electronic Musician, Keyboard, Music & Sound Retailer, Future Music, Post, Sound on Sound, and Wired.

As a visual artist, Carl’s primary influences are Wassily Kandinsky, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Alex Grey, and M.C. Escher. He claims his biggest visual influences however, are the yarn paintings and beadwork of the Huichol Indians of Central Mexico and the sand paintings of the Tibetan Buddhists. He cites their vibrant colors and the spiritual symbolism as providing boundless inspiration.

Carl is also an accomplished musician who studied composition with film and TV composer Shawn Clement and music performance at the University of Massachusetts. Some of his notable credits include original music in the Artisan Entertainment film "Greenmail" starring Stephen Baldwin, and engineering credits for a member of the rock group Yes. Carl recently completed a track for the first Zaadz Visionary Music Compilation, a benefit album with proceeds going to Kiva, an organization that provides zero interest micro-loans to individuals in developing countries.

His work “Original Face” was displayed at the MicroCoSM Gallery during their summer show in 2007. His work "Integral Thought" was used as the cover art for the Integral Naked Premier DVD, July 2007.

Carl’s long term goal is to start a school for creative individuals of all types.

You can connect with Carl, see more of his art, and hear his music at a variety of places online.
