Artist Statement The term "amateur" derives from the French "amour". An amateur photographer is passionate about the art of photography. It became my avocation at a young age, and as an amateur I am still learning. I learned film processing BW and Ektachrome slides (Remember the old Ektachrome kits by Kodak). This was quite a feat for a young lad at a time, and in a place, where one went to a public school with a wood stove, and had to brush the snow off his desk on winter mornings due to the loose glazing on the windows!

I eventually became a teacher in the public school system of Nova Scotia, and promoted my hobby through school camera clubs, teaching evening adult ed. classes etc.

Now that I am partially retired I have started to scan and save images taken over the past thirty years or so. Thus far, over 15000 negatives are in digital form. Most are mediocre. some are good, and a few are excellent.

What a contrast now using a digital camera! Sales of vinegar at the local food store have slumped(acetic acid - stop)!

I am also amazed by the images I see on Imagekind.com, and have picked up many new ideas, by perusing the work of other contributers, that I want to try .
