Description 30in x 40in acrylic on canvas. The Kite is a painting of my wife Belle as a child running through a field attempting to launch her kite into the air. Behind her, just releasing the kite, is a figure representing me as a child. The background scenery is the landscape seen while traveling north on the 125 freeway in San Diego, although the field in the foreground is made up. The field is where the freeway would be in real life.
Todd Martin, San Diego Member Since October 2014 Artist Statement I am a physician and self taught artist who began painting while in medical school in 1990. Since then I have steadily worked on my craft, trying to improve my ability to fulfill the vision that is in my mind. My goal has always been to create paintings that express joy, happiness, and a love of life. For the past 15 years, my gallery has been my medical office exam rooms. It has brought me great joy and satisfaction to see the reactions of my patients to my paintings over the years. In the early days, it was "that's not bad," but more recently the comments are more along the lines of how happy it makes them feel, and how much would it cost to buy. Given the limited time I have to paint, I never considered selling my paintings because each one is like one of my babies. The opportunity to offer prints of my work is truly exciting for me. I hope you enjoy what I have to share.
