Description 2010 RC deWinter ~ All Rights Reserved___________________________________________It's Midsummer Eve, and the full Dyan Moon (so called, after the goddess Diana, in medieval England) is so round and full that this mysterious forest clearing is as bright as daylight.___________________________________________Hidden deep in the heart of Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire is an ancient dwelling constructed using natural, uncut oaks as an integral part of the architecture. If you look carefully in the back right of the painting you will see, shrouded in darkness, branches and foliage, this venerable building. No one knows much about it, and no one has ever been able to enter - if a stray visitor manages to find a way to the clearing, the house magickally melts into mist that dissipates among the trees.___________________________________________There is an old legend associated with this eerie place - that on the night of every full moon closest to the Summer Solstice, nine cats emerge from the house and perform a circle dance around the trunk of what is known as The Leaning Tree. Why they dance, where they are during the rest of year and who they belong to has never been discovered.___________________________________________Digital folk-art oil painting with a light antique paper finish. More detail than can be easily viewed on a monitor. Thanks to my dear friend and gifted artist Constance Widen for sharing the forest photograph with me; I'll take the blame for the rest.___________________________________________
