Artists Statement and Bio:
Born in Bay Shore, NY, I lived in the metro New York area and now reside in Northeast Pennsylvania.
What I see in my mind’s eye I try to identify and paint with, spending time with mixing color, studying contrast and darks and lights. The lines come last. I enjoy painting and creating.
I started painting with my mother, early in life - handing her the “right” brush as she taught me, then giving her paint colors and finally applying the paints to create a work of art. This teaching has established the foundation for my work and I have utilized this training, along with my own experimentation and education as I emerged as an artist as a young man.
My choice of media mainly includes acrylics, but I do love to work with graphite, pen & ink, and watercolors, as well. Sketches done with a combination of paint and colored pencils often germinate ideas for larger paintings. My paintings vary in size to larger format.
My chosen subject matter varies from contemporary, surreal, and figurative work; portraits of my children and colleagues have won admiration and praise. My work has been published in books, newspapers, magazines and other print and social media, and chosen by for-profit and nonprofit businesses for advertising and awareness campaigns.
My work hangs in collections and several art galleries in the region and has been sought after and purchased many times throughout my artistic career.
Most recently, my ideas were chosen to be included on one of the Snowmen of Stroudsburg – large as life-size 3-D sculptures placed throughout the downtown area of Stroudsburg, PA, and is currently being admired by the local and surrounding community, and visitors from all over the world and has been featured on the local and regional news stations including PBS and featured in several print publications.
Upcoming exhibitions of current and new works include Origins Gallery at Pocono Arts in March 2019, and in Bethlehem galleries in April and May. Google Thomas Dillon to see more works and for more information email: thomasdillonartist@gmail.com
