Artist Statement I am a chemist in my day job, but an artist in the evenings when I have time, and on some weekends. I have always loved to create art and have done so since I was a little girl. I have fond memories of a place my mother used to take me to. It was called the Little Fire House. We listened to classical music and painted. I took every art class I could in school, but as I got older I had to focus on math and science studies. Now that my kids are growing up and do not have to be watched constantly, I can pick up doing art again. I paint what I like and the ideas just come from my imagination. Sometimes I don't even know what I want to paint, and just start somewhere and let it evolve. I prefer to paint things that make me feel happy. I love animals and sock monkeys, so lately I have focused on those subjects. I had a tiny sock monkey when I was a little girl, but I lost it. I have made several sock monkeys for my children and one for a friend. I have three Italian Greyhounds, one Chihuahua, and one Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix. My first painting as an adult was of an Italian Greyhound that I named Prissy. Next I did cat paintings for my brother and my parents. Many of my sock monkey pieces are ideas that I got from family and friends and some of them were requests for paintings, which I gave to them as gifts. If I can make someone happy with my art, then that makes me happy!
