Artist Statement Hello and welcome to the Tree of Life Series taken from the Quinary Poetry and Abstract Art collection.

I use the word "Quinary" to help give definition to the poetic rule I have designed and tried to follow. The rule wants to challenge your poetic expression to five words or five brief thoughts. One could say a minimalist approach to poetry combined with artistic expression.

So with the power granted to us all and by the laws of Poetic License and Poetic Justice, I invite you to do what I have done, please join me and

My first abstract piece I creasted was in 2005. I had been flying back and forth between my current home of Phoenix and my childhood hometown of Toronto. My angst at the time was my trying to cope and accept the fact that my father was losing his battle with colon cancer.

Words kept popping in my head, and a song, sung by George Harrison "Give me hope, help me cope with this heavy load..."

I took my frustrations to paper and paint and created an abstract image accompanied with a short poetic phrase. This was the beginning of my learning to let go of feelings kept inside.

The Tree series came several years later while I was demonstrating to my mother the notion of letting go through abstract art or doodling as I tried to explain.

My mother took some colored markers and drew a few strokes on a sheet of watercolor paper. She then stopped and would not go further without some guidance. I took her piece and doodled some more and finally came up with the piece I called the "Tree of Life."

So not only do I credit my parents with the birth of me, but the birth of this series too. Thanks Mom & Dad!
