Description This is my tribute to the women that have served their country. Wasp stood for Womens Air Service Pilots. They had the important roll in the war of transporting replacement bombers and fighters to the overseas units that needed them. The original photo this was taken from was of the four women with only the nose of the plane in the background. The women are left to right.Farnces Green, Margaret Kirchner, Ann Waldner, and Blanche Osborn. The uniform patch pictured was Finfinella created by Walt Disney. The aircraft numbers are to honor my own mother. 06 on the nose for June, and the tail numbers 211924 ,21st 1924 was her birthday. Unlike the women in the service she too was a veteran of a different sort. She was a Navy wife. Like other wives and girlfriends, they supported the war and servicemen by taking care of the home front. Everything from being a house wife (caring for the home, kids and bills), to being Rosie the rivetor in our factories. They were seldon rewarded for priceless service.
Gene Ritchhart Ritchhart, Arlington, Wa. Member Since July 2010 Artist Statement I was born in july of 1955 in San Diego, Ca. My dad was career Navy so I pretty much grew up around Naval Air Staions on the west coast.I graduated El Cajon High School in El Cajon, Ca in 1974 and enlisted in the Army. I spent most of my time in Mainz, West Germany. My job in the army was as a mechanized infantry driver, driving the old armoured personnel carriers. I came back home and got out of the army and used my GI Bill to get an AA degree in art. My 3rd try at marriage was apparently the right one as my wife has put up with me now for 22 years. She's OK. We make our home in Arlington, Wa. now; at the foot hills of the Cascade Mountains.
