Artist Statement Art has always been a part of my life as far back as I can remember. My aunt, Imogene Gaylord was an artist and I spent many hours at her studio while she gave oil painting lessons and I was always included. I learned all of the basic elements of art from my aunt and shared her love of painting. Imogene had a studio in Balboa Park’s Spanish Village Art Center in the 1960’s & 70s , I can remember wondering from studio to studio, always amazed and inspired by what I saw. I retired several years ago and am now myself am a member of Spanish Village. I am intrigued by patterns and use them in my work, there is a certain contentment in the repetition whether it be the veiny outline of a leaf, the intricate pattern of a garment, or the patterns that I design in my head. I have experimented with many mediums finding a new adventure in each one. I currently am obsessed with the Reverse Glass Painting, the glass enhances my detail and patterns giving it a wonderful crispness. I work in oils, acrylics, and mixed mediums creating paintings, jewelry, sculptures, book cover design, Skateboards, and possibly a very large horse.
