Description My daughter often asked me when she was little ,was everything black and white when you were lttle. She did this because all my pics were in black and white and she thought the whole world was black and white back then. In some ways she may have been right . In 1957 when this old Chevy was born the country may have been black and white for real, you knew where you stood when it came to religion, pride in country and work ethic. Religion meant a foundation to build our country not a way to seperate it. Having a job meant pride not looking to the gov. for a way out. My father fought in WW2 in the Marine Corp , I went to Viet Nam in the Navy. I saw this as something he did for me , in turn something I did for him. Now color adds too many contrasting ideas .This old 57 Chevy with a black eye means a way of life I hope I can go back to , sometimes you have to take a step back to go foward.
William Griffin, elsmere Member Since February 2009 Artist Statement Having grown up in the country in Ky. I was exposed to the farm life which was all around me. Even though I was not a farmer myself I used to help them in my younger years for spending money. Maybe it is a romantic notion I have of these younger years but I see a way of life and a type of person disappearing that I am not sure we will ever be able to replace. These were hard working , proud, independent people that taught me alot about life. Their barns are just an extention of who they were and what they stood for as they ae monuments to a way of life my grandkids may never know . Some of the other things I enjoy shooting are just off shoots of my love of barns. The old cars, trucks and houses are all different venues that came about on my journeys out looking for barns. The river and urban shots are just experiments , something to get me out of my comfort zone and try something different. I also love looking at other people work as it constantly gives me inspiration and ideas to enjoy my wonderful hobby. Thanks for looking. BILL
