Description This painting and poem were inspired by a situation I have witnessed first hand. I wanted to express the feeling of someone who is addicted. Addiction can hold you captive in a shattered world from those who love you. The little white creatures are a bit on the whimsical side. The more I thought about them, the more I thought of them like maggots, eating and destroying the things they touch. Addiction can destroy your very life and hurt those around you. I have done a second version to this one but am not quite satisfied so it is still in the process. There is hope and freedom for the addicted through Christ and that is what I want to portray in the sequel to this one.
Penny Pausch, Jonesboro Member Since February 2012 Artist Statement I grew up way back in the hills of Missouri (U.S.). I was a country girl and loved every moment of it. My sister and I did not have many toys and so we played outside on trees and other things in the woods and learned to use our imagination. This has become an asset to me. I knew by the 5th grade that I wanted to be an artist more than anything else. I like to paint, sew, minipulate objects so that they are interesting, cook, and write poetry. One of my goals is to write a poetry book and illustrate it. I recently have gone back to college after 17 years of raising my children.
