Description We call it the Red Mangrove; the First People of this area referred to it as the 'walking tree' because of the resemblance it had to legs that would enable it to move of its own will. Weedon Island Preserve, St. Petersburg, Florida. A companion piece to Walking Tree Number 1.
Phil Penne, Clearwater Member Since August 2014 Artist StatementMy photographs are my children.
Photography has been an important element of my life for over forty years. I use a digital camera, but have in the past used 35 millimeter, medium format, 'folding plate' cameras (including my favorite, a 1928 Zeiss-Ikon Donata) and several pinhole cameras of my own construct. Pinhole photography is still my favorite, even though I haven't done it in some time. There is something raw and perfect about this most ancient of photographic techniques that carries with it a certain allure.
