Description Commonly known as foxglove, the flower is native to temperate Europe and is naturalized in parts of North America. Its scientific name is digitalis purpurea. Foxglove is a biennial plant usually grown as an ornamental plant due to its vividly colored flowers. The plant blooms in the early summer and attracts bees and hummingbirds. The term digitalis is also used for drug preparations that contain cardiac glycosides, particularly one called digoxin, which is extracted directly from the plant. Foxglove can also be toxic to humans and other animals. Hummingbird and White Foxglove, is a hand-painted digital image and photo composite created in Spadecallers Florida Studio on 12/9/2020.
