Current Gallery: cabinetcards ( piece)
These are works based on the Victorian tradition of "cabinet" cards or cabinet portraits. From about 1860 through 1920 one might have a portrait taken and given as a gift to friends or family on a 4x6 in (or so) card, for display on a curio cabinet or the like. These cards are usually found in antique stores, and the idea of making up a personality for an unknowable person is what instigated these pieces. Each is an original photo card, with collage and stamps added to enhance what I saw in the personality, or just to give the persona I felt at the moment I embellished the portrait. I owe the final piece to each individual who sat for these photos over 100 years ago.
