Current Gallery: pinhole ( piece)
These images were created using a homemade pinhole camera built from a wooden cigar box. The long shutter speeds and slight perspectival distortions inherent to pinhole photography result in images that capture time and space in a conceptual way. Instead of freezing an instant of time as one would with a lens camera, pinholes capture the progression of time. Each piece is a narrative of form and movement. I find pinhole photography to be incredibly empowering as an artist. Being involved in the process of creating first the camera and then the images permits a sense of absolute creative control. The act of shooting the images, however, is still spontaneous and the outcome somewhat unpredictable. Pinhole photography gives the artist mastery over form and function while conceding to the caprice of time and movement in the subject.
